We’re thrilled to honor two treasured members of our community whose dedication, heart, and hometown pride have helped shape Saline into the vibrant place it is today. Cindy & Wally moved to Saline in 1991, drawn by its small-town charm and inclusive spirit. Cindy shares: “We were both born and raised in small communities and wanted to raise our family in that type of setting, too. Saline felt like the perfect fit, the schools were providing inclusive education for special needs students and the city was actively working to revitalize the downtown business district.” That same year, they attended their first Saline Christmas Parade - and haven’t missed one since!

In 1995, their dream of opening a restaurant came true with the launch of Mac’s Acadian Seafood Shack, now a cornerstone of downtown Saline for over 29 years with the support of the Kinley family, the City of Saline, and the community members. Mac’s is more than a restaurant - it’s part of Saline’s story.

Their impact goes far beyond business:

Cindy chaired the Christmas Parade Committee, served as Chamber President, and held roles on several boards including the Saline Business Development Authority and St. Joe Mercy Hospital Development Board and is a graduate of the local Saline Leadership Institute.  Wally helped establish Saline Main Street and has been a driving force behind events like Oktoberfest and the Celtic Festival. Their deep involvement and unwavering commitment to Saline’s schools and community organizations are truly cherished and have left a lasting impact.

Cindy shares, “This is the 50th annual Saline Christmas Parade, such a cherished tradition, one that has created so many memories for our family over the years. We’d like to take a moment and recognize that without the hard work of the Saline Chamber, countless community volunteers, local businesses, and the City of Saline working together this event would not be possible. Their efforts make it possible for all of us to come together and Celebrate this Holiday Season.” The evening, “is a Celebration of our community’s heart and Spirit, tis the season for hope, unity and creating cherished memories. Merry Christmas to our Family, our Mac’s Family, and our friends and Neighbors.”

Congratulations Cindy and Wally MacNeil, our 2025 Holiday Parade Grand Marshals! Join us in this celebration on Saturday, December 6 at 5 PM downtown Saline.

Our 2024 Event:

Our 2024 Annual Holiday Parade and Tree Lighting took place on Saturday, December 7th in Downtown Saline! This year, we had over 70 entries who took part in this incredible celebration. Our event commenced with caroling from the Saline High School Ten Tones at our Tree lighting Ceremony! Soon after, Mayor Marl took over the mic to give seasons greetings. With Mayor Marl's help, we introduced our Grand Marshall and both of this year's emcees!

For the 2024 Holiday Parade, our Grand Marshall was Sue and Steve Whitner! This charming couple has lived in Saline since 1980 and have supported local charities through the Whitener Giving Fund. Sue graduated from SHS in 1973 and met Steve in a marching band at Olivet College.

They married and raised 2 sons who also graduated from SHS and are both married and have recently had children of their own.

Sue worked for Consumers Energy while Steve owned 4 Michigan Auto dealerships including Briarwood Ford in Saline which was named Small Business of the Year in 2005 by SACC. Thank you Sue & Steve for your outstanding service to the Saline Community!

We had two wonderful emcees for this year's parade in Lucy Ann Lance and Annherst Kreitz (pictured below).

Lucy Ann Lance (left)  is the host of a popular daily talk show on Ann Arbor's 1290 WLBY, and co-owner of Lance & Erskine Communications!

Annherst Kreitz (right) currently serves as the Director of Development and Community relations at Washtenaw Christian Academy.

We thank both of these ladies for their commitment and efforts throughout our parade and for providing an excellent experience to our community!
