The Saline New Horizons Band was established in June 2004 by Joe and Mary Labuta with only twelve members. The band is open without audition to all adult players from every level of experience. While a few members of the band are experienced musicians, most had not played for many years and are relearning their musical skills. Others are new to reading and playing music. The band is affiliated with the New Horizons International Music Association with over 200 bands in the United States, Canada, Europe and Australia. The philosophy of New Horizons is to provide a musical experience for all through participation. The SNHB is a volunteer, non-profit organization supported by member and community donations.
The band meets for full band rehearsals in the Liberty School Band Room, 7265 N. Saline-Ann Arbor Road in Saline on Tuesdays from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. The concert band, directed by Richard Schoenfeldt, performs 4-5 concerts a year. In addition, there are smaller ensembles that form for enjoyment and performances on a regular basis.
New musicians or musicians interested in learning a new instrument are welcome to join the Green Horn Band. They meet every Tuesday evening from 6:00-7:00 pm at Liberty School. This is a great place to learn to play and we would love to have you join us!
